DOS
FACE TO FACE : It is always good and courteous to personally inform your immediate boss of your plan to join a new organization. It is not right to just email a message or leave a letter on his table in his absence.
RIGHT ATTITUDE : Have a very constructive criticism - not negative – on why you would like to leave the company. For example, Your pay is not upto your expectations compared to the work assigned to you and your ability to do the work. This may enable your boss to rethink about losing a worthy employee.
STAY IN TOUCH : Never leave your colleagues in the middle of an ocean and run away. You may need their help in your future career. Give them proper understanding of the works that were dealt by you and ensure that they understand the work before you leave the present employment. The least you could do is to give your telephone number or email ID to the employee who is occupying the seat immediately after you.
RIGHT REFERENCES : Take care while giving references to your future employers. You should also inform them that, if necessary, your new employer would contact them. Giving references to new employers without informing them may not be appropriate because the person whose reference you have given may or may not like giving their names.
DON’TS
FEELING ANGRY : Never make a mistake of your handing in your resignation letter when you are angry on someone or some work assigned to you. It may be testing time for your patience but you should maintain your cool. It is quite possible your management wants to test you to give you more prospective work or increase your pay.
THINK RIGHT : It is not right to think only negative aspects of your job. Everything in your work place may not be negative. There will be some good things happening around you as well. Maintain your dignity at work place. Take good criticism in your efforts to work well.
AVOID UNASKED REASONS : If you do not feel like giving any specific reasons for your resignation do not give. Giving unwarranted reasons or unasked for reasons may not help either you or your employer.
NO PEN DOWN : It is not right to put your pen down after you have tendered your resignation or working on a notice period. Beware, if your employment letter specifies, you may be legally binding.
AVOID CAMERAS : Just because things are not going as you desire, never go to the social media and start slaughtering your present employer or management. Do not make things awkward for the people who are still with your present employer.
LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST TENDER A GREAT RESIGNATION LETTER TO YOUR MANAGEMENT.
