Description: A chronological resume is the most familiar form of resume writing. It contains the details about work history and educational background in a chronological order. The order followed by this type of resume is from most recent job details and continues to the earliest details. 2. Functional resume:

Description: Instead of addressing the work experience or the positions of a person, the functional resume more focusses on skills of an individual they possess. The functional resume contains rich text about the skills and achievements and highlights only some areas of the user experience that are intended to the jobs that an individual applies for.
Way of Usage: If an individual is new to the industry or a fresher (graduation with a college) with limited experience background, then this type of resume is suggestible.
One can also use this type of resume who has got diverse education background.

3 Combination resume:
Description: This is the replacement of chronological and functional resume and describes about experience and skills of an individual
The sequence of combination resume as follows
- Skills
- Experience
- Employment history.
The employment history needs only the job titles with name and location of the organization that an individual has done previously in a reverse chronological order.
The user need not mention the complete information about each job as that data is already mentioned in the skills area.
Way of Usage: this type of resume is desirable when the user wishes to mention the detail description about the work experience and their specialized areas of work/experience.

There are other categories of resume writing which have least importance and they are
- Targeted resume
The targeted resume is a customized category in which it highlights the skills and experience of an individual.
- Mini resume
The mini resume will not have the complete details of an individual and is preferable when an employer wishes to know the overview of the achievements of a particular person rather than a full-fledged resume.
- Non-traditional resume
The non-traditional resume includes graphics, photos, images and videos etc.
